metric is a pre-mix of two broad spectrum herbicides, namely metribuzin and clomazone. Metribuzin is a selective herbicide that belongs to the chemical class called triazines. This compound performs exceptionally well and can be applied either as a foliar spray, which involves spraying it directly onto the leaves, or as a soil treatment designed specifically to control both pre-emergence and post-emergence broadleaf weeds, as well as annual grasses. Metribuzin is notable for its residual effect on the soil, which allows it to continue working over a period of time. It is primarily absorbed through the plant's roots, although it can also be taken up by the leaves to a lesser extent. Once absorbed, the herbicide is translocated acropetally in the xylem to the leaves, which is where it exerts its effects. The mode of action of metribuzin is quite specific: it inhibits photosystem II of photosynthesis by disrupting the process of electron transfer. This disruption ultimately leads to the death of the target plant due to starvation, as it can no longer efficiently produce the energy it needs. Similarly, clomazone is a broad spectrum herbicide specifically used for the control of various annual grasses and broadleaf weeds found in crops such as cotton, peas, pumpkins, soybeans, sweet potatoes, tobacco, winter squash, and in fallow wheat fields. The application of clomazone can take place early pre-planting, pre-emergent, or as preplant-incorporated methods, depending greatly on the specific crop, the geographical area, and the timing of the application. It is imperative to note that, since clomazone acts as an inhibitor of plant pigments, users must be extremely cautious to avoid any drift or vapors that might cause bleaching damage to non-target foliage, which can have significant consequences for surrounding plants. Clomazone is available in various formulations, notably in emulsifiable concentrate form, making it easier to handle and mix for application. Always remember to follow safety protocols and application guidelines when utilizing these potent herbicides.
